Description
As ambulance services move into a period of innovation and change, developing services to support the urgent care agenda, SCAS, is committed to providing high levels of patient care in a pre-hospital environment and are focussed on delivering the right care to our patients, at the right time.

Key to the delivery of these services is the expansion of specialist clinical roles, one of which is the Specialist Paramedic / Nurse in Urgent Care (previously named Emergency Care Practitioner).

This role would suit qualified practitioners, who are enthusiastic, dynamic and highly motivated. Essential skills include excellent communication with effective influencing and negotiating skills, working with multi-disciplinary teams across the NHS landscape in order to ensure that appropriate care is provided for patients.

Specialist Paramedics / Nurses will use specialist knowledge and skills to independently provide healthcare, focused in particular, to patients with minor illnesses or injuries, long term conditions, and other urgent care needs.

The specialist will be responsible for the care of the patient including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, discharge and / or referral, and for administering and supplying medicines, in line with Patient Group Directions.

The role requires sound clinical knowledge including evidence of history taking and clinical triage in a sensitive manner, providing assessment, advice and treatment in line with clinical protocols and using professional judgement, and to show that they can work as part of a team or autonomously.
Entry requirements
These are some of the essential criteria you will need to be successful as a Paramedic; more detailed criteria are available in the Person Specification for the role:
  • Approved Specialist Paramedic / Nurse (ECP) qualification (post graduate diploma level or equivalent)
  • Professional body registration, eg. HCPC, NMC with demonstrable clinical experience in the operational pre-hospital (ambulance) setting
  • Full UK driving licence (including C1)
  • IHCD (or equivalent) Emergency Driving qualification
